Liverpool are on the verge of breaking their all-time transfer record as they look to finalise a sensational £116 million move for Florian Wirtz.
While the club insists the deal doesn’t constitute a British-record fee, it would still mark the most expensive signing in their history.
Wirtz has dominated headlines throughout the summer, but an even more staggering twist could be on the cards.
The Reds have also been linked with Alexander Isak, and according to Sami Mokbel on The Football Terrace, a possible move for the Newcastle striker could eclipse even the Wirtz deal.
Alexander Isak Set to Command Higher Fee Than Florian Wirtz
Mokbel shared his thoughts on Florian Wirtz’s impending move to Liverpool, describing it as potentially the biggest transfer of the summer.
However, the BBC journalist suggested that any deal involving Alexander Isak would likely surpass it in scale.
He did emphasise, though, that it would take an extraordinary offer to prise Isak away from Newcastle.
“It’s massive, I can’t see another (bigger) deal. Unless something outrageous happens with someone like Alexander Isak. It will most likely be the biggest deal of the summer, Liverpool have got their number one target,” Mokbel said.
“£116m all in, a £100m fixed fee. So it’s not quite yet a British transfer record, but it can be. It’s expensive. But we’ve seen the qualities he has,” Mokbel said.

Liverpool Maintain Interest in Alexander Isak
Talk of Alexander Isak joining Liverpool has cooled in recent weeks, mainly because the focus has shifted to the high-profile pursuit of Florian Wirtz.
Nonetheless, Mokbel claims there are still whispers of interest from Liverpool in the Newcastle striker. That said, these reports remain unconfirmed for now.
“Is there any talk or chatter with the sources you have that Liverpool are trying to make inroads into this? Have you come across anything like that,” Mokbel was asked.
“Yeah, not to the point where I’ve had it verified or have been comfortable enough to write it or report it, but I’d be lying if I said that, even recently, I haven’t heard anything about Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak. The biggest concern is, is it financially viable?” Mokbel said.
If Liverpool manage to secure both Isak and Wirtz in a single transfer window, it would undoubtedly rank among the most remarkable transfer windows in Premier League history for any club.
